About these numbers: Values are average hit points from the printed hit dice. Rolled totals vary per table, and regeneration or healing adds on top in play, so rows pin the average only.

About this converter

The Monster Manual prints average hit points per monster from 4 to 676. Commoner opens at 4, Goblin at 7, Guard at 11, Orc at 15, Knight at 52, Mimic at 58, Ogre and Owlbear tied at 59, Mind Flayer at 71, Gelatinous Cube and Troll tied at 84, Displacer Beast at 85, Aboleth and Lich tied at 135, Young Red Dragon at 178, Beholder at 180, Ancient Red Dragon at 546 and Tarrasque at 676. That makes one Tarrasque equal ninety six Goblins of hit points. Every value here is the 5e average with rolled variance left out.

How to use it

Pick two monsters and a unit in the top row. The three boxes below stay linked. Change any box and the other two update. One box holds a count of the first, one holds the matching count of the second, one holds the total in hit points. Try 1 Tarrasque against Goblins.

Armor Class and challenge ratings for the same monsters run on companion pages, since bulk, dodge and threat measure different things. Troll regeneration at 10 per round rides on top of its 84 and stays noted. Player characters break this scale with healing and stay out.
