Fiction Units is a static reference site. It has no accounts, no newsletter, no login, and no comment system. This policy explains the small amount of data that still moves when you visit.

Who runs this site

Data collected automatically

Hosting logs. Cloudflare delivers these pages and keeps short term server logs to run and protect the service (for example IP address, user agent, requested page, error codes). Cloudflare controls that retention under its own privacy terms. This site does not buy, merge, or resell that data.

No analytics by default. This site ships no Google Analytics, ad pixels, or cross site trackers. If analytics are ever added, they will run only after you press Accept in the cookie banner, and this policy will be updated first.

Data stored on your device

Theme choice (key fu-theme in local storage): remembers light or dark mode. Set when you tap the theme button.
Cookie choice (key fu-consent-v1 in local storage): remembers whether you pressed Accept or Reject, so the banner does not reappear on every page.

Both entries stay in your browser. They are never sent to a server by this site. Clearing site data in your browser removes them.

Data you send voluntarily

Email. If you write to contact@fictionunits.com, your address and message are used only to reply. They are not added to a mailing list and not shared with third parties except an email provider moving the message.

Search. Search runs in your browser against a local index file. Queries never leave your device except as a normal page fetch for the index file itself.

Legal bases (EU and UK visitors)

Hosting logs are processed under legitimate interest in running a secure site. Theme and consent storage are strictly necessary for a basic feature you asked for. Anything optional in the future will rely on your consent, given through the cookie banner and revocable at any time with the Cookie settings link in the footer.

Your rights

You can ask for access, correction, or deletion of any message you sent, and you can object to or restrict processing where the law allows it. EU and UK visitors can also complain to their local data protection authority. California visitors: this site does not sell or share personal information and sends no behavioral ads, so there is nothing to opt out of. To exercise a right, write to contact@fictionunits.com.

Children

Pages are general reference content and target no children in particular. Do not send personal details of children by email.

Changes

If this policy changes in a material way, the Last updated date above moves and, where suitable, a note appears on the home page. Continued use after the change counts as acceptance of the new version.
