About this converter

Fifth Edition equipment lists fixed gold piece prices in the Player Handbook. A dagger costs 2, a handaxe 5, a shortsword or battleaxe 10, a longsword or warhammer 15, a greataxe 30, a greatsword 50, a shortbow 25, a longbow or heavy crossbow 50, a light crossbow 25, a hand crossbow 75. Armor climbs from a 10 gold shield and studded leather at 45 through chain mail at 75 and splint at 200 to half plate at 750 and full plate at 1500. That makes one plate suit equal seven hundred fifty daggers. A potion of healing costs 50 and thieves tools cost 25. Every value here is the PHB equipment table price.

How to use it

Pick two costs and a unit in the top row. The three boxes below stay linked. Change any box and the other two update. One box holds a count of the first cost, one holds the matching count of the second, one holds the total in gold pieces. Try 1 plate armor against daggers to see the 750 to 1 gap.

Prices are mundane base costs before bargaining or crafting. Silver pieces convert at 10 per gold and copper at 100, but rows stay in gold for comparison. Magic items use rarity tiers rather than fixed prices and stay out of this table. Plate at 1500 is the priciest mundane row here.
