About this converter

Carrying capacity equals Strength score times 15 pounds under PHB page 176. STR 1 carries 15, STR 8 carries 120, STR 10 carries 150 as the commoner baseline, STR 14 carries 210, STR 16 carries 240, STR 18 carries 270 and STR 20 caps player characters at 300. Epic STR 24 reaches 360 and STR 30 reaches 450. Pushing, dragging or lifting doubles capacity to 30 times Strength, so STR 10 pushes 300 and STR 20 pushes 600. Size doubles each step above Medium and halves for Tiny.

How to use it

Pick two entries and a unit in the top row. The three boxes below stay linked. Change any box and the other two update. Try 1 Push 20 against Carry 10 to see the four to one gap. Switch to kilos for metric tables.

Variant encumbrance rules on the same page add 5 times Strength thresholds with speed penalties and stay out of base rows. Large creatures double capacity per step, Huge quadruples, Gargantuan octuples, and Tiny halves. Barding, vehicles and flying mounts use their own tables and stay out. Mules and carts multiply hauling far past personal limits.
