About these numbers: Stats are Gen I base Defense before IVs, EVs, badges and stat stages. Real damage multiplies level, power and typing on top, so rows pin the base only.

About this converter

Red and Blue store one Defense number per species from 5 to 110. Chansey opens at 5, Abra at 15, Pikachu at 30, Caterpie at 35, Alakazam at 45, Bulbasaur at 49, Eevee at 50, Magikarp and Raichu tied at 55, Vaporeon at 60, Fearow and Snorlax tied at 65, Gyarados at 79, Machamp at 80, Mewtwo at 90, Dragonite at 95, Mew at 100 and Sandslash at 110. That makes one Sandslash equal twenty two Chanseys of Defense. Every value here is the Gen I base with badges and stages left out.

How to use it

Pick two Pokemon and a unit in the top row. The three boxes below stay linked. Change any box and the other two update. One box holds a count of the first, one holds the matching count of the second, one holds the total in Defense. Try 1 Sandslash against Chanseys.

Badges boost Defense by 12.5 percent each outside battle math shown here, and stages multiply in battle. Special runs off a separate stat, which is why Mewtwo soaks special hits better than its Defense suggests. Attack, Speed, EXP and catch rates for the same dex set run on companion pages.
