About this converter
Oxygen Not Included ties dig time to hardness. Soft tiles break fast with no skill, firm tiles need time, and very firm rock needs trained diggers. This table ranks 15 Klei solid values on one scale, from Dirt at 2 to Diamond at 250. Sand and Sandstone sit at 10, Igneous Rock and ores sit at 25, Ceramic and Iron sit at 50, Granite sits at 80, Abyssalite sits at 150, Obsidian sits at 200. Hardness also sets pressure tolerance from liquids above the tile.
How to use it
Pick two materials and the hardness unit in the top row, for example Obsidian and Dirt. The three boxes below stay linked. Change any box and the other two update. One box holds amounts of the first material, one holds amounts of the second, one holds the total in hardness. Try 1 Obsidian against Dirt to see the 100 times gap. Click any row to load it as Entry A with amount 1.
Skill gates shape the list. Very Firm rock from 50 needs Hard Digging, Nearly Impenetrable rock from 150 needs Superhard Digging, and Super Duper Hard rock from 200 needs the top digging skill. Corium at 251 is a radioactive endgame solid and Neutronium at 255 is unbreakable, so both sit outside this core dig ladder and are noted here rather than ranked. Refined Phosphorus at 0 and Graphite at 0 break instantly and are left out for the same clean comparison reason.
FAQ
What is the hardest material in Oxygen Not Included?
Diamond at 250. It is the hardest ranked here. Corium at 251 and Neutronium at 255 sit outside the ranked rows.
What digging skill do I need for Granite and Obsidian?
No skill for Dirt at 2 through Igneous Rock at 25. Hard Digging from 50, Superhard Digging from 150, and the top digging skill from 200.
How much harder is Obsidian than Dirt?
100 times. Obsidian at 200 divided by Dirt at 2 gives 100. Pick both in the top row and try 1 against 1 to see it.
Does hardness only set dig time?
Yes, plus pressure tolerance. Hardness also sets how much liquid pressure a tile can hold before breaking.
