About this converter

NASCAR top trap speeds come from timed qualifying laps. Talladega Superspeedway is 2.66 miles with steep banks and ranks as the fastest oval. Daytona International Speedway is 2.5 miles and ranks next. Bill Elliott set both all time marks in 1987 at 212.809 at Talladega and 210.364 at Daytona. After his 1987 runs, plates cut power at both tracks. Buddy Baker broke 200 first in a 1970 test at 200.447. Benny Parsons broke 200 first in qualifying in 1982 at 200.176.

How to use it

Pick two entries and a unit in the top row. The three boxes below stay linked. Change any box and the other two update. Start with Elliott Talladega and Dillon Daytona to see plate era change. Then try Baker test to Patrick pole to see 1970 to 2013 change.

Speeds are official timed laps from NASCAR track and race guides. The 212.809 and 210.364 marks still stand as track records. Test runs are marked as tests and not race poles. KPH math uses 1 KPH is 0.621371 MPH for base change. Modern Cup poles at these tracks run near 180 to 196 with plates. Use trap speeds here for top end comparison only, not race average.
