About this converter
Wizard money has three coins: 29 bronze Knuts make one silver Sickle, and 17 Sickles make one gold Galleon, so a Galleon is 493 Knuts. Hagrid calls it easy enough, and with the converter it is. For real money, Rowling said a Galleon is about five pounds, and the forewords she wrote for the charity editions back it up: about 34 million Galleons equaled 174 million pounds. That pins the pound rate, and dollars and euros follow from normal GBP exchange rates. This page converts all six units and lists book prices, from a 1 Knut newspaper to the 1,000 Galleon Triwizard prize.
How to use it
Pick two entries and a unit in the top row. The three boxes stay linked: edit any one and the other two follow. Coin to coin math is exact. Coin to Muggle money uses the Rowling anchor (1 Galleon = 5 GBP, about $6.35 / 5.85 EUR at recent rates). Pick any row in the price table to load it as the first entry.
Some famous prices were never printed. The Firebolt, for example, is never given a canon price in the books, so it is left out rather than guessed. Every entry here names the book where the price appears.
