About this converter

This page compares enemy experience values from Final Fantasy VIII, the 1999 Square game. Data comes from the Gamer Corner monsters table, which transcribes the Final Fantasy VIII Ultimania. Each regular enemy has a base EXP number plus a small level modifier. Base values run from 1 for Cactuar to 200 for Behemoth. Battle EXP splits among party members and equipped Guardian Forces. The converter uses base EXP.

How to use it

Pick two entries and a unit in the top row. The three boxes below stay linked. Change any box and the other two update. Select Bite Bug in one box and Behemoth in the other box to show early versus late gains. Switch to Thousands of XP for large gaps.

No official base figure was found for Fastitocalon 12, Ifrit 600, Diablos 800, Wendigo 900, NORG 3000, or Adel 0. Those items were left out. The draft uses base EXP 15 for Bite Bug and 28 for Caterchipillar from the Ultimania transcription, with modifiers like 15 plus 5. Total battle EXP equals base plus modifier times enemy level. Bosses use fixed or story values and are left out.
