About these numbers: Prices are the fixed NES and PlayStation Normal shop values. Easy and remake editions discount most goods, so this table uses Normal figures. Square never set a gil to dollar rate, so no USD conversion appears.

About this converter

The original Final Fantasy priced its whole world in gil and the numbers never moved. A Knife costs 5 gil, Clothes and Hammers 10, Leather Armor 50, Potions 60, Antidotes 75, Chain Mail 80, level 1 spells 100, Scimitars 200, Tents 250, level 2 spells 400, Sabers 450, Iron Armor 800, level 3 spells 1,500, Cottages 3,000 and Knight's Armor 45,000. That means one Knight's Armor equals nine thousand Knives or seven hundred fifty Potions, no exchange rate needed. Every figure here is the Normal edition shop value from Cornelia through Melmond. Magic tiers share single prices per level, which is why one spell stands in for four.

How to use it

Pick two prices and a unit in the top row. The three boxes below stay linked: one holds a count of the first price, one the matching count of the second, one the total in gil. Change any box and the other two update. Try 1 Knight's Armor against Potions.

Easy edition and remakes discount goods, for example Potions at 40, so remake figures stay out of this Normal table. Sell prices run at half of buy prices across the board. Mythril gear at 4,000 plus sits between Cottage and Knight's Armor for a follow up.
