About this converter

Modern Dwarf Fortress has no single damage stat. Trap kills come from raw contact area times hits. Menacing spikes strike once at contact 10. Spiked balls strike 3 times at contact 10 for 30 total. Corkscrews strike once at contact 100. Axe blades strike once at contact 100000. Serrated discs strike 3 times at contact 100000 for 300000 total. A full weapon trap holds up to 10 parts, so totals run from 100 with spikes to 3000000 with discs. Every figure here is Bay12 raw contact math from item_trapcomp.

How to use it

Pick two entries and a unit in the top row. The three boxes below stay linked. Change any box and the other two update. One box holds counts of the first trap, one holds counts of the second, one holds total contact damage. Try 1 disc trap against spike traps to see the 30000 to 1 gap. Try 1 full axe trap against full ball traps for late game planning.

Contact is not the whole fight. Size sets mass with material density, penetration sets armor defeat at 200 to 10000 depth, and steel, glass, wood, and quality shift real wounds. Spikes and corkscrews pierce organs but fail on undead with no organs. Discs and axes slash limbs but can jam with corpses. Stone fall traps drop 1 stone by weight, cage traps deal no damage, and upright spikes need a link, so those types stay out of this contact table. Check material before copying totals.

FAQ
