About this converter

Planet Zoo sets a minimum land area for each habitat animal in the Zoopedia. Space needs drive layout more than diet or biome, since an Elephant needs 2,151 m2 while a Warthog needs 290 m2 on the same savannah map. This table ranks 13 Frontier base game land needs on one scale, from the Aldabra Tortoise at 230 m2 to the Elephant at 2,151 m2. Giraffe at 1,306, Wild Dog at 1,162, Tiger and Cheetah at 705, Ostrich at 675, Camel at 650, Zebra at 510, Buffalo at 420, Aardvark at 330, Warthog at 290, and Gemsbok at 270 fill the middle.

How to use it

Pick two animals and a unit in the top row, for example Elephant and Zebra with square meters. The three boxes below stay linked. Change any box and the other two update. One box holds habitats of the first animal, one holds habitats of the second, one holds the total area in the chosen unit. Try 1 Elephant against Warthogs to see how many warthog pens fit one elephant range. Click any row to load it as Entry A with amount 1.

Land area is the ranked column. Water and climbing areas are separate needs and are noted per row rather than ranked. Extra animals add less space than the first, such as 667 m2 per extra Elephant and 332 m2 per extra Giraffe. Exhibit species use small glass tanks rather than m2 habitats and sit outside this table. Values cover the base game African and Asian core roster, while later DLC animals are left out for a clean comparison.
