About this converter
Golden Age pirates sailed small ships. Fancy at 30.48 m, Golden Hind at 31 m on deck, Queen Anne's Revenge at 31.4 m, Whydah at 34 m, Adventure Galley at 38 m on the keel. Film pirates sail bigger: Black Pearl at 50.29 m, Flying Dutchman at 51.82 m. A navy first rate dwarfs both groups, with Victory at 57 m on the gundeck and 69.34 m overall. The real workboat under the Pearl set, Sunset, measured 109 ft, which shows how sets extend hulls for camera. Every row names its measure so keel is not mixed with overall by accident.
How to use it
Pick two ships and a unit in the top row. The three boxes below stay linked: one holds a count of the first ship, one the matching count of the second, one the length in the chosen unit. Change any box and the other two update. Try 1 Dutchman against Queen Anne's Revenge, or 1 Victory against sloops.
Ships with no firm length stay out. The Thousand Sunny and Going Merry have no official lengths, so they stay out rather than guessed at. Royal Fortune length varies by account and stays out too. Adventure Galley overall runs about 45 m against a 38 m keel, and Golden Hind replica overall runs 37 m against a 31 m hull, which is why each row pins the exact measure.
