About this converter

Minecraft Java Edition places ores as blobs with a set spawn size. The spawn size sets the shape and the upper limit for blocks in one placement. Coal has a spawn size of 17. Copper has a spawn size of 10. Iron has a normal spawn size of 9 and a small spawn size of 4. Gold has a spawn size of 9. Redstone has a spawn size of 8. Lapis has a spawn size of 7. Diamond has sizes 4, 8 and 12. Emerald has a spawn size of 3. Nether quartz has a spawn size of 14. Ancient debris uses scatter placement with sizes 3 and 2.

How to use it

Pick two entries and a unit in the top row. The three boxes below stay linked. Change any box and the other two update. Try Coal 17 against Diamond 8 to feel the gap. Try Quartz 14 against Nether Gold 10 for Nether planning. Values are spawn sizes for world generation, not drops.

Spawn size is not the same as the exact block count you will see in game. One placement can be smaller because stone shape, air exposure, and nearby blobs change the result. The list uses Java Edition values from the Ore feature page. Overworld ores use triangle or uniform placement by height. Nether ores use uniform placement in most zones. Ancient debris is a scatter ore, so size 3 means up to 3 blocks and size 2 means up to 2 blocks. Fortune results are left out here.
