About this converter

Saturation is the hidden value behind the hunger bar in Minecraft Java Edition. Food restores hunger you can see and saturation you cannot see. High saturation keeps health healing longer before hunger drops again. Golden Carrot leads the list at 14.4 saturation with only 6 hunger. Cooked Beef and Cooked Porkchop give 12.8 saturation with 8 hunger. Cookie sits at the low end with 0.4 saturation. This page lines up 14 common foods on the same scale. Values come from game code as shown on Minecraft Wiki.

How to use it

Pick two entries and a unit in the top row. The three boxes below stay linked. Change any box and the other two update. Try Golden Carrot against Cookie to feel the gap. Try Cooked Beef against Bread to plan farm trips. The base unit is saturation, so the math shows how many units each food replaces.

Saturation cannot pass your current hunger level. If hunger is low, part of a big meal is lost. Eat before the bar gets too low for best return. Cooked Cod and Cooked Rabbit both give 6.0 saturation in current data. Some old lists show different numbers for these two. We use 6.0 to match the current Food page. Baked Potato, Bread, Cooked Cod and Cooked Rabbit share the same 6.0 value but differ in hunger. Two hunger points equal one bar.
