About this converter

Dirt and sand sit at 0.5 hardness, grass and gravel at 0.6. Stone at 1.5 follows, then planks and cobblestone at 2. Coal, iron, diamond ores and deepslate tie at 3. Obsidian jumps to 50, about 100 times dirt. Hardness sets dig time with the right tool. Hands, shovels, axes and pickaxes each cut specific blocks fastest. Wrong tools can triple time or drop nothing. Bedrock at minus 1 means unbreakable in survival and is left out here with that noted.

How to use it

Pick two blocks and the hardness unit in the top row. The three boxes below stay linked. Change any box and the other two update. Try obsidian against dirt to see the 100 times gap. The bars below scale to obsidian so dirt looks thin next to it. Ratios are exact divisions of the Wiki hardness values. Click any row to load it as Entry A with amount 1.

Stone at 1.5 ranks below planks at 2 by code despite drafts that flip them. Bedrock hardness minus 1 flags unbreakable survival and is left out per no figure rules. Command blocks and end frames share unbreakable status and stay out too. Blast resistance is a separate table from hardness, so obsidian 50 here differs from its 1,200 blast figure. Values hold for Java; Bedrock Edition matches on listed blocks.

FAQ

What is obsidian hardness?

50. It needs a diamond pick and runs about 100 times dirt.

Why is bedrock missing?

Hardness minus 1 means unbreakable in survival. No finite figure exists, so it stays out.

Is hardness the same as blast resistance?

No. Hardness sets dig time. Blast sets explosion weight. Obsidian is 50 hardness and 1,200 blast.

What breaks stone fastest?

Pickaxes. Stone at 1.5 falls fast with pickaxes and slow with hands.
