About these numbers: Defense points are Java game units, not real armor ratings. Full set totals sum the four worn pieces. Only Diamond and Netherite grant toughness, 2 and 3 per piece, and only Netherite grants knockback resistance. Enchantments, shields and effects add on top in play, so rows pin the base item only.

About this converter

Java armor grants fixed defense points per piece, and a full set sums its four pieces. A Leather Cap gives 1, a Turtle Shell gives 2, a Leather Tunic gives 3, a Golden Chestplate gives 5, a Chainmail Chestplate gives 5, an Iron Chestplate gives 6, a Diamond Chestplate gives 8 and a Netherite Chestplate gives 8. Full sets total 7 for Leather, 11 for Golden, 12 for Chainmail, 15 for Iron and 20 for Diamond and Netherite. That makes one Diamond set equal twenty Leather Caps of defense points. Every value here is the Java defense number with toughness and set sums noted where they move.

How to use it

Pick two items and a unit in the top row. The three boxes below stay linked. Change any box and the other two update. One box holds a count of the first item, one holds the matching count of the second, one holds the total in defense. Try 1 Diamond set against Leather Caps.

Diamond and Netherite tie at 20 defense points for a full set, but Netherite adds more toughness per piece, 3 against 2, plus knockback resistance. That gap shows only against hard hits like Creeper blasts, since toughness cuts the armor penalty as damage climbs. Golden and Chainmail chestplates tie at 5, and their full sets land close at 11 and 12. The Turtle Shell sits at 2 with Water Breathing on top, so it matches an Iron Helmet for points while adding the swim effect.

FAQ

What is a full Diamond set?

What is a full Leather set?

7 defense points: Cap 1, Tunic 3, Pants 2, Boots 1.

Does Netherite give more points than Diamond?
