About these numbers: Figures are press limits from the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe and Marvel.com bios. Class 100 means in excess of 100 tons, so 100 is shown as a floor. Marvel's own editors admit stat drift across decades, and each entry notes where its figure comes from and its era.

About this converter

Marvel quantified strength before the internet could argue about it. The Handbook scale runs from peak human at 800 lbs to Class 100, in excess of 100 tons, measured as a dead press in a calm gym, not a battlefield feat. That framing matters: Spider-Man's famous 10 tons came from Gruenwald estimating debris Ditko drew, and was always meant as an absolute upper limit, not a casual lift. This page uses the classic handbook press figures with their era attached, floors where the books give open ranges, and notes where later writers moved the numbers, like the Thing climbing toward Class 100.

How to use it

Pick two characters and a unit in the top row. The three boxes below stay linked: one holds a count of the first, one the matching count of the second, one the weight in pounds or tons. Change any box and the other two update. Try 1 Hulk against Spider-Men, or stack Daredevils against Kingpin.

Lift (press) means overhead with arms fully extended, per the handbook definition. Battlefield strength varies with adrenaline, injury and writing, which is why the book numbers, not feat debates, anchor this table.

FAQ

How much can Spider-Man lift?

Nearly 10 tons at his absolute upper limit, per Marvel.com and the classic Handbook. Day to day he lifts far less.

How much can Captain America lift?

800 lbs, the peak human limit in the Handbook scale. He has no superhuman strength.

How much can the Hulk lift?

In excess of 100 tons (Class 100). The books give no upper limit, so 100 tons is shown as a floor.

Is the Thing stronger than the Hulk?

No. The classic Handbook lists the Thing at 85 tons against the Hulk's Class 100+, though later upgrades narrowed the gap.
