About this converter

Final Fantasy IX came out in 2000 from Square. Enemies give fixed EXP when beaten, and many story bosses give zero. This tool compares EXP for early Mist Continent foes, mid game beasts and late game dragons. All numbers use XP as the base. Goblin and Fang give 23 XP. Ironite gives 577 XP. Cactuar gives 4208 XP. Grand Dragon gives 35208 XP. Use the list to see how fast EXP grows from start areas to end areas.

How to use it

Pick two entries and a unit in the top row. The three boxes below stay linked. Change any box and the other two update. Use it to compare Goblin with Grand Dragon. Try Ironite against Cactuar for mid game planning. Test story bosses at zero against normal foes.

Stats come from the original game data as shown on Final Fantasy Wiki enemy pages, Game8 enemy pages and Caves of Narshe bestiary tables, which match the Ultimania monster chapter order. Boss fights tied to story scenes often give zero EXP and zero Gil. Festival Hunt versions also give zero. Random encounter versions of the same name can give normal EXP. Values are per kill and the game splits nothing. AP and Gil are not shown here.

FAQ

Why do some bosses give zero EXP?

Story bosses like Beatrix and early scripted fights give zero EXP and zero Gil. The game treats them as scenes, not normal wins.

What is a good early EXP foe?

Ironite gives 577 XP near Burmecia. Grand Dragon gives 35208 XP and can be beaten early with fixed damage skills.

Do Hunt foes give EXP?

Festival of the Hunt versions give zero EXP. Their Hunt points decide the festival winner, not levels.
