About this converter

Sauropods own the top of this table. Argentinosaurus leads at 35 m, Supersaurus follows at 33, Patagotitan at 31 and Puertasaurus at 30. Mid size sauropods cluster near 26: Sauroposeidon 27, Diplodocus 26, Dreadnoughtus 26 and Futalognkosaurus 26. Smaller sauropods close the plant eater rows with Giraffatitan 23, Apatosaurus 23 and Brachiosaurus 22. The largest meat eaters are far shorter: Spinosaurus 14, Giganotosaurus 13, Tyrannosaurus 12.3 and Carcharodontosaurus 12. One Argentinosaurus matches almost three Tyrannosaurus nose to tail.

How to use it

Pick two dinosaurs and a unit in the top row. The three boxes below stay linked. Change any box and the other two update. Try 1 Argentinosaurus against a Tyrannosaurus to see the near three to one gap in meters or feet.

Lengths are total body estimates from published skeletal reconstructions, not single bone guesses. Patagotitan first made news at 37 to 40 m in 2014 press reports, then settled at 31 m in later volumetric work, so the table pins 31 and notes the older claim. Maraapunisaurus stays out because its size rests on one lost bone and estimates span 30 to 60 m. Amphicoelias stays out for the same reason.

FAQ

What is the largest dinosaur on this list?

Argentinosaurus at about 35 m and 65 to 75 tonnes, per Paul 2019 volumetric work. Patagotitan at 31 m is the most complete giant, so it is cited more often.

What is the largest meat eater here?

Spinosaurus at about 14 m, ahead of Giganotosaurus at 13 and Tyrannosaurus at 12.3. No meat eater here reaches half of Argentinosaurus.

Why do some sites say Patagotitan is 40 meters?

Early 2014 press reports said 37 to 40 m. Later study revised it to 31 m and 50 to 60 tonnes. The table pins 31 and notes the older claim.

Is Maraapunisaurus included?

No. Its size rests on one lost vertebra with estimates from 30 to 60 m. It stays out rather than guessed at.
